WILL PARTIES WORK TOGETHER
TO CLEAN UP THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?

OTTAWA - Today, Democracy Watch called on all the federal political parties to work together to clean up the federal government, in the same way they are making deals on spending and tax cuts in attempts to produce more results from the 10-month old minority government.

"The federal political parties are playing let's make a deal on every issue except cleaning up the federal government, the issue that got the Liberals in trouble in the first place," said Duff Conacher, Coordinator of Democracy Watch. "Are all the parties addicted to acting dishonestly, unethically, secretively, wastefully and irresponsibly, or will one party finally take the lead in pushing all the parties to correct the serious flaws in the federal government accountability system?"

The list of changes needed to clean things up is long, but the parties can easily make the changes before forcing an election, if they are interested more in increasing their accountability than they are in trying to grab power from the Liberals.  Key accountability changes are as follows:
